Title Landmark ruling in drugs case
Details
Soraya Fra Marron has been sentenced to nine years in prison in a landmark drug smuggling prosecution by the UK Border Agency. The Spanish woman is believed to be the first person in the UK to be tried and convicted of conspiracy to supply cocaine by attempting to import a cutting agent. It is estimated that the 44.5kg of phenacetin, a common cutting agent, that Fra Marron was carrying on December 7, 2009 when stopped at Luton airport, could have been used to create up to 90kg of street level strength cocaine.
